  7. The Champalimaud Foundation is seeking to fill a Biomedical Scientist position, specialist in Experimental and Diagnostic Histotechnology. The selected candidate is expected to perform a variety of research procedures in the anatomical and molecular pathology areas. Includes applying proper histological methods that involve processing, sectioning and staining of tissue specimens from humans and animals; implementing novel tissue and cell-based molecular techniques; and providing expert histology support to Champalimaud Foundation Researchers and Pathologists.

Maximization of the use and validation of animals as models of progression and resolution of human disease, as well as expansion of the methods applicable to human tissues, are unmet needs that also offer a unique opportunity to develop novel toolboxes in histopathology. Notably, the appointed Experimental and Diagnostic Histotechnologist is expected to explore these novel opportunities and to work in close proximity to the Pathologists and Researchers in order to promote technology and scientific synergies.

Primary Services of the Histopathology platform:
~Processing, inclusion, sectioning and H&E staining of paraffin embedded samples
    ~Embedding and sectioning of fresh/fixed, paraffin/frozen samples
    ~Histochemistry
    ~Immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence
    ~Optical clearing methods
    ~Molecular methods

    About Us
The Champalimaud Foundation (CF) is a private, non-profit organisation, established in 2005 and dedicated to research excellence in biomedical science. Completed in 2010, the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown (CCU) is a state-of-the-art centre for basic and translational research, diagnosis and treatment of diseases from brain disorders to cancer. CF Houses the Champalimaud Clinical Centre (CCC) and the Champalimaud Research (CF Research). CR mostly focus its efforts in the areas of Physiology, Cancer and Neurosciences. CF provides a unique environment for cutting-edge research. It is now clear that many brain diseases result from malfunctioning of the nervous system together with metabolic changes as well as alterations in the immune and endocrine systems. Likewise, cancer, especially metastatic cancer, involves changes in the tissues where secondary tumors grow and global systemic alterations, as well as compromised host immunity. Therefore, it is of essence to study different systems and how they interact in healthy and diseased organisms, that is, to take an organismic approach to biomedicine.

Champalimaud Research community counts on more than 300 scientists and staff of which 40% are foreign (with representatives from 36 different countries) and of which 54% are female. The Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown (CCU) is located at the beautiful waterfront of Lisbon, Portugal. Lisbon offers a sunny Atlantic Mediterranean climate, affordable cost of living, and vibrant culture, with good public transportation, international schools and convenient housing options both within and outside the city center. English is the official language of the institute.

Remuneration will be internationally competitive and commensurate with experience. Applications should be submitted to careers@research.fchampalimaud.org with subject “EHT May2020 YOUR LAST NAME” and include a curriculum vitae, a motivation letter (including a brief summary of past accomplishments) and the names of 2 referees.
Review of applications will begin immediately and proceed until the position is filled.

APPLICATIONS RECEIVED UNTIL June 2nd ARE BEING CONSIDERED.
Applications received after this date will only be considered if no candidate is chosen from this first pool.
