Research position available to participate in a project aiming at understanding the links between metabolic reprogramming, feeding behavior and reproductive aging

  1. Date: 17.9.2020
  2. Location: Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown
  3. Employer: Champalimaud Foundation
  4. Job type: Full Time
  5. Position: Scientific Research
  6. Application start: 17.9.2020

  7. Do you want to work in an international and dynamic team using the newest genetic and molecular technologies to analyze how complex biological phenomena such as metabolism and behavior are controlled in a living animal? Are you fascinated by the question of how tissues communicate within themselves and the brain to modulate behavioral decisions and nutrition? Are you interested in exploring how aging impacts reproduction, metabolism and feeding? Do you want to play a pivotal role in the research life of people? Then this might be something for you! Are you planning on pursuing an academic career? We also have an excellent track record of research assistants who went on to pursue a PhD and a career in science!

    Your tasks:

We are looking for a research assistant to collaborate in preparing tissues for single cell RNAseq and metabolomics, tissue immunohistochemistry, behavioral assays and assays of animal physiology such as egg production and lifespan. You will work and get trained in genetic and behavioral techniques in the “Behavior and metabolism” group of the Champalimaud Research Programme in Lisbon, Portugal.

    Your qualifications:

A bachelors or master’s degree in science, a focused, well-organized and very reliable working style, motivation and interest for science, very good interpersonal skills, the desire to learn new techniques and the ability to work as part of a team are essential. Good English skills are essential. Experience in Drosophila husbandry are a plus but not required.

Candidates are encouraged to send applications (cover letter and CV) to Zita Santos (with subject “GCRLE position”) to zita.santos@neuro.fchampalimaud.org.
