A call for one master thesis fellowship (Bolsa de Investigação) is open for Fundação D. Anna de Sommer Champalimaud e Dr. Carlos Montez Champalimaud (Champalimaud Foundation) in the context of the project “Comparing paediatric and adult cancer progression and therapy response” PTDC/MED-ONC/5553/2020 – financed by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT).

The Fellowship will have the duration of 12 months and is expected to start in 1 st September 2021 , in exclusiveness regime, as regulated by Lei n.º 40/2004, de 18 de Agosto, FCT (Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação Científica) and the FCT Research Fellowship Regulations (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2015.pdf), as well as the Fellowship Regulations of the Champalimaud Foundation.
Subject of Activities:
The master student will participate in developing and running in vitro experiments aimed at studying the mechanisms involved in cancer progression and resistance to cancer therapy. This position will include a broad and involving range of tasks, including:
? – Generation and engineering of tumour organoids; – Functional experiments in vitro; – Resistance/response to cancer drugs; – Immunostaining &imaging; – FACS sorting.
The master student will be supervised by Adriana Sánchez Danés and will join the Cancer and Stem Cell Biology laboratory.
Any national, foreign and stateless candidate(s) holding a degree in biological sciences, medicine, veterinary or engineering, with a demonstrated ability for independent and creative research. Experience in any of the following areas will be beneficial to the application: cell culture, immunostainings and biological imaging techniques. Good English skills are essential.
Start at € 798,00 as determined by FCT, I.P. Scientific Fellowships regulations for Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores) and the Fellowship Regulations of the Champalimaud Foundation.
The fellowship will be paid monthly by bank transfer. The fellowship holder will have personal accident insurance and, if not covered by any social protection scheme, can ensure the right to social security through adherence to the voluntary social insurance scheme.
The activities will be performed at Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown.

Methods of selection:
The candidates’ selection will fully observe all applicable legislation. It will consist in the evaluation of the scientific and curricular backgrounds of the candidates, with particular attention given to the relevance, quality, actuality and adequacy of the aforementioned backgrounds, to be weighed as follows: – motivation letter: 25% – curriculum vitae: 65%
Each application shall be evaluated by the jury in a scale from 0% (not adequate) to 90% (excellent), the top 5 students will be interviewed.
Following the interview the top 5 students will be racked as follows: 25% motivation letter, 65% curriculum vitae, 10% interview and the top-ranked candidate selected.
