The neuroscience PhD programme was founded in 2007 as the Gulbenkian-Champalimaud Programme in Neurosciences (PGCN) under the directorship of Zachary Mainen. In 2009 the programme was renamed International Neuroscience Doctoral Programme (INDP). After being program coordinator in 2011,
The INDP is organized by the Champalimaud Foundation through the Champalimaud Research Programme.
The INDP is supported by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), and the Champalimaud Foundation.
The Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC), the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), the Centro de Investigação de Materiais (CENIMAT) and the Instituto Universitario de Ciencias Psicologicas, Sociais e da Vida (ISPA), participate in the INDP offering courses available for students at different stages during their PhD.
Degrees are granted through associations with the Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica (ITQB) from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL), and the Instituto Universitário de Ciências Psicológicas, Sociais e da Vida (ISPA).
